If this is how I feel towards his album, I think Libs’ new album will give me a stroke. Needless to say I am a weeny bit skeptical about it.

God he even uses that diacritical mark on his name on the cover. I’m not sure if I must weep or laugh or do both at the same time.

The Magus

Wow. Wow, Carl, Wow. Impressive. Quite grand, but not over the top. A bit monotonous but it works. Mystical, shall I say? True to the title, it’s at least that. On we go.

Je Regrette, Je Regrette

He’s serving us mix salad, isn’t he? Even from the intro you can tell that it’s completely different from the first song. It’s…merry, in a way. Tune-wise, I mean. As a whole, it’s a lyrically-(self-)disparaging version of Wolfie’s Magic Position. I think I actually imagined a merry-go-round behind my closed eyes while listening to that. It almost convinced me that no matter how cynical or self-hating you are, at some point in your life, most likely when you’re older, you’ll turn into a…brighter person. Inappropriate adjective. More cheerful person.

She’s Something

If I ever, for some unseeable reason, believed that Carl’s mind is possessed by somebody else, I would not consider that Pete is one of the possible perpetrator. Not based on this song. The tune is crisp, can’t tell if that’s a good thing or a bad thing, it just is. And again, monotonous. But this time it works less well.

Carve My Name

The words are carved more elegantly, that I can say. Although the voice is slightly out of… since I’m tone-deaf I can’t say for sure in musical terms. But if the voice were a radio dial, it could be twisted a tiny bit more to get the cleanest audio of the radio station.

I’m very confused now trying to describe the song. Forget about mixed salad, he’s made gado-gado, complete with the peanut sauce. One moment it has the feel of orchestra, the next it made me think of old cinemas with black-and-white films and big round tapes. I turned my wheels trying to figure out whose songs this one sounded like but no one came to mind so that’s something. It’s so mixed you can hardly recognize the original ingredients anymore. Although to be fair my range of music is still very short so don’t take my words on that.

Run with the Boys

intro – I think at this point I will be surprised if I find a song that actually flows from the song preceding it. It’s fine, I guess it’s fine. It’s essentially his first album so he’s trying many different styles in one go.

You know how I always say that I’m not a fan of unnecessary decorative words? Based on that, I should hold Carl in reverence as if he were a deity. But I’m not. His plain wording style diverges from the music it’s unfitting.

I don’t mind the music though. Not particularly striking but enjoyable enough. Although I do fear that it will get old quite quickly.

The Fall

This is the right moment to admit, not shamefully, that he doesn’t have the best voice in the world.

His music, could and can be used for soundtrack in films such as Casanova. What’s the era? The setting? 18th century Europe? Something like that. I quite like it. He arranges the music well.

You know the saying, ‘lovers come and go, but friends stay forever’?

I think whoever came up with that is a ridiculous idiot.

Right, maybe that’s too harsh. Apologies. Let’s just say I have a feeling that if we met, we wouldn’t connect very well. We certainly don’t have the same way of thinking. There are three reasons why I wrote what I wrote:

First, s/he believes that friends and lovers are essentially different from each other. That’s discrimination. One that is widely accepted and practiced, regrettably enough.

Second, s/he thinks that friends would never drift apart.

Third, if he is aware that friendship does wane at some point and thinks that the word ‘stay’  is still suitable to describe that state… well, clearly he’s in desperate need of a better dictionary.

In any case, ew, see what happens if you read academic papers in place of artistic writings? My writing is definitely not improving and may very well be worsening.

I think it’s becoming dull.

For example,  Time Lord is the species name while Doctor is the character name.

2. My bike’s so slow it’s not even remotely close to funny. Sort of feel like riding an open-roofed bajaj. And it’s a bit noisy too. Teketek ketek ketek ketek. Am predicting that the ride up to and down from campus is going to be mind-numbingly long and boring. Shit I’ll get even duller, won’t I?

3. Am seriously considering going to onsen/ofuro every time I’m going to ride the bike. I mean, before I ride it. Not ‘when’ ’cause that doesn’t make any sense, and not ‘after’. Before. ‘Cause it makes the whole ride feel much, oh very much less cold.

What’s going on inside the mind of a small child tramping about the food court, eyeing everything with such curiosity in her eyes. A mind in which words are barely known and grammar is yet to be understood. How does she understand herself? How does she take in images of things going through her eyes?

What’s going on inside the mind a person from whose lips words seem to never cease gushing. A word, a sound, there’s always something, with or without meaning. I imagine the mind to be like the streets of Jakarta, disordered, confusing, with infinite number of vehicles driven quick as they could be driven.

What’s going on inside the mind of a person who always shine, always, leaving hardly any spot for shadow to linger. Whose rays might have changed without anyone being able to see it because it is of different wavelength, invisible to the naked eyes. Who is so far up above, I wonder if the ordinary humans down here can still be seen.

I’d say I wonder about what’s going on inside the mind of a person whose words flow melodiously in my mind, but that one mind happens to be almost identical to my own, so it wouldn’t be that fascinating anymore, would it?
Although…There are still some parts I have yet to explore. A lot, perhaps.

And I’d say I want to know about what’s going on inside this one particular mind but I believe that the subjects of experiments should not be those to whom we are emotionally attached.

Mind. I want to know about the human mind. People’s minds. The minds are brilliant. Are dumb. Are fascinating.

I want to know who’s controlling them.

Where the word ‘feminine’ and ‘masculine’ have become obsolete. I would say where the people are gender-flexible but then I don’t want the word ‘gender’ to exist either, so let’s just say ‘flexible.’ Socially and sexually.

If you happen to be a sensitive man then you are just a man that is sensitive, not a girlish man. Or if you happen to be an insensitive woman, then you are just a woman that is insensitive, not a tomboy. Oh, that’s another word that shouldn’t exist. Tomboy, effeminate.

And religions? Still exist for those who want to believe. For those who don’t, then no religions. But it does not matter. Differences are just differences, with no complications whatsoever.

Speaking of sexual flexibility, if the god forbids same-sex (physical) relationships but the person happens to be interested in members of the same sex and he (they?) does not pursue it, it will only mean that he follows the rules he has chosen to follow, not denying how he truly is.

Where people embrace themselves. Where individuals interact harmoniously in a group without having to deny who and how they are.

Differences exist, similarities exist, stereotypes do not.
